I bet if you tripped over your shoe laces you could get someone to prove that it was caused by Global Warming...

Honestly though? Before the whole Global Warming frenzy, did freak natural events not happen? Was our world free of freak natural disasters? Was the world weather patterns predictable, and freak events never occur?

This is just pathetic... How about this flood was caused by building upon flood planes? Flood plains are natures equivalent of a sponge, when you get to much water they soak up that water. But when you dig it up and build over it, the water has no where to go!

Apparently this happened in England 60 years ago as well, but according to the quote above it's not possible since nothing other than humans can cause flooding in England.

So what? It would be more useful if the comments said something on the order of "scientists have tested and proven, scientists have tested and proven".

It should have been "some" scientists agree...

I noticed that in global warming propaganda on the History Channel and the Discovery Channel. They say "scientists agree" as if ALL the scientists agree on this one concept. You can never get everyone to agree on the same unproven concept. Those shows will be less of a propaganda if they said "some scientists agree" and then present the other side of the argument. So far, on all those nature shows, I have heard word one on the other side of the opinion.

Here's a prime example. Ever heard that scientists believe drinking a glass of red wine is good for the body? When I see a show talking about the benefits of red wine, it also presents the other side of the argument. A small segment of the show will say "this is only a correlation between healthy people and drinking red wine...there are many other reasons for this result...here they are..."

I never see that objectivity on global warming propaganda.

Al Gore was recently in the UK, and spouted the same line that suggested total consesus from all scientists. When, challenged on this, he stated any contrary views are from scientists in the pay of BIG OIL/ENERGY etc and were therefore invalid.

Of course, this is not a valid argument.

There was an interesting TV doc in the UK a couple of months ago (The Great Global Warming Swindle iirc) that offered a really compelling counter and had lots of fairly emient scientists (none of whom work for dubious corporations) putting counter expanations for climatic change...

If the global warming debate seemed to be fair (rather than a quasi-religious orthodoxy) then I be more likely to take it seriously...

I can't discuss racism because I'm a racist if I don't agree that it's a serious problem.

I can't discuss homesexuality because I'm a homophobe if I don't agree that it's an important issue.

I can't discuss poverty because I hate the poor if I don't agree with the "Big Govt, More Money" party line of the Left for addressing it.

I can't discuss the strength of the "Global Warming" concept because if I disagree with the Doomsturbation scenario then I'm a dupe of the Evil Corporations.

The Left does NOT tolerate debate, discussion, or any deviation from what they take in as a core belief - any non-acceptance is Heresy. Yet another parallel between the Left and dogmantic religion.

In a larger sense it is illustrative of the Left's suppression of thinking and the elevation of knowing.

And it is that terrifying lack of ironic perception that both entertains and disturbs me about the absorption of one of America's two political parties by the Left. I truly hope that they split soon so real Democrats can have a strong voice again.

So were OK for another 60 odd years then, the thing that puzzles me is when you see items on the news, showing all this flooding, the water is appearing to run, if thats the case, where`s it going???, hey! hey! answer me that one then

The thing about freak weather is until Global warming got the big write up no one gave it a second thought, however it is noticable that the freakish weather conditions do seem to occur with greater frequency, and last longer, although I do recall the Great Freeze of 81, boy Oh boy

Watching the news reports from the South of England, and getting very wet when I cycle to work in what is laughingly called summertime, and the fact that only this very morning I had to, again, put on my full wets en route to work, when normally at this time of year I have a suntan, I have got rust instead

You answered your own question earlier. All you are seeing is more coverage of weather, not more extreme weather.

Climate change is responsible for this.

Sweden is flooded as well.
NO sunny days in Belgium for almost one month now.
The birds were nesting and flowers were growing in January this year.

But what causes climate change is another issue.

Although the Left (in the UK through political correctness and "consensus") is extremely bad for suppressing debate - I don't think it is the exclusive domain of the left.

I have seen similar sentiments about this (and other topics, i.e Iraq) from the Right also. It worries me that both ends of the political spectrum feel the need to condense everything into a Manichean, light versus dark, overly simplistic view of the world.

Is it that the majority of the population have concentration spans equivalent to defective goldfish? Is it the media (through 30 sec news clips/attention grabbing headlines) that has created this lack of informed debate or merely responded to the (special) needs of the populace?

Worrying, methinks...

Whether Global warming is a real threat or responsible, I do not know, but SOMETHING is amis.
Or of course, it could just be a bad year, as I said, I've not got the foggiest
