Oh, I'm afraid my geekiness knows no bounds.

I am literally fidgeting in anticipation of the arrival of this.

    Gonna be yummy.

Interview: Al Gore on his mission to save the planet | Special reports | Guardian Unlimited

The recommendations in An Inconvenient Truth were reasonable things like having properly inflated tires and insulated houses. These are hardly the rantings of some anarcho-primitivist.

Furthermore, Al Gore does take steps to reduce his load on the environment. It is true that he is not a saint. However, he is doing more than you or I to lessen global warming. This comes from the same Guardian article:

From a CNN Larry King Live interview with Al Gore (Aired June 13, 2006):

    CNN.com - Transcripts

I saw your most recent post about global warming not passing any tests. How many documents do you want me to get to support global warming? Ten, a hundred, a thousand? I can easily do that to counter your mistaken claim. Let's settle for ten to start off. By Sunday, I will find ten good articles on global warming. You can find ten articles, preferably not from the American Petroleum Institute, that claim that global warming is not happening or is not due to human activity.

I know that you and many other conservatives view global warming as a hoax spawned by the amorphous 'left'. I ask you to put aside that for our debate, as hard as it may be. I don't mean this condescendingly. I think it is essential to stop viewing Al Gore and all the IPCC as adversarial.

I believe the climate crisis is not a political, but a moral issue.
What happened to the great debate? I was all ready for the show and now it's feels like leaving the theatre after the previews. I feel so... unsatisfied.

Anecdotal more than scientific, but funny as heck and it shows one of the deeper weaknesses of the whole "global warming" religion:

    Article here.

"LAST month Australians endured our coldest June since 1950. Imagine that; all those trillions of tonnes of evil carbon we've horked up into the atmosphere over six decades of rampant industrialisation, and we're still getting the same icy weather we got during the Cold War."

I asked someone who believes in global warming about the colder winters. Do you know what the answer was? She was totally serious "global warming makes for more extreme weather patterns, therefore colder winters."

The earth gets hot and the earth gets cold. Ain't nothing we can do about it.

    What?
I read the article too. Since when does Warming mean colder or wetter or dryer? I like it when people try to re-define a word. First it was Global Warming, now they're trying to change it to Climate Change and expect people not to notice. What's it going to be next?

Whatever happened to the hole in the ozone layer or acid rain? I admit when I was younger I got caught up into the hype and watched Captain Planet every Saturday morning but when I didn't need sunblock just to check the mail or run in fear from rain I realized I'd been had.

Please. Don't get Parihaka started on the ozone hole. And don't get me started on acid rain. It's not the end of the world, but it is definitely hard on the trees around here. Many mountain tops around here are covered in dead trees, in part because of acid rain and other pollutants.

I'm sorry for not having all the facts, but I haven't heard all the fire and brimstone about those recently. I blame the mainstream media, nothing but Paris Hilton and what's HOT!

If acid rain and pollution is still a problem, those should have priority.

Well, looks like all the opposition ran off.

Pollution is still a problem, but it's a problem that, contrary to hype, has gotten and is getting better, for the most part. We should certainly be concerned, and be very watchful for trouble, but there is a definite upward trend. The fir trees on the high mountains around here are largely dead now, but, while acid rain has played a part in weakening the trees, a certain aphid is probably the prime culprit.

As for what has priority in the news, that's simple: what sells the best is the most important. What sells? Sex, violence, and the apocalypse. Paris Hilton > pollution.

Sorry jumping in a little late hear but..

Climate Change is a natural phenomenon, not man made. "Global Warming" is just a neat little packaged theory to make a lot of people rich. Whoever came up with the idea of selling carbon credits, by hoodwinking the entire planet into believing that if they don't buy there product that our world as we know it will cease to exist, was one hell of a smart....and rich person!
