I was dining there one afternoon, eyeballing the truthers and their friends, when over a dozen federal agents burst in to likewise dine there as intimidation and show of force. It was an interesting moment.

I may have "converted" a "truther" once. We were home on vacation eating lunch in a roadside diner 4 years ago. There was a TV broadcasting the news in the place, & something was mentioned about a memorial being unveiled somewhere (I apologize, but I cannot remember where). Our waitress made an off-hand comment, something like "I don't know why they're erecting memorials like that. Everyone knows it's a government cover-up."

I asked her what made her feel that way. She replied, "Because--they could have landed those helicopters on the roof & flown those supposedly trapped people to safety!" As she walked away after delivering meus to us, I took a deep breath & pondered her comment. When she returned to take our order I decided to press the issue.

I informed her that:
1) they didn't know how damaged the structures were at that point, & the weight of just one helicopter could have caused the building it landed on to topple.
2) roof access in such skyscrapers are usually locked, as they don't want people throwing objects (or themselves) off the edge, to possibly injure people below. So, how could they have reached the roof anyway?
3) the air currents generated by the burning structures would have made it very difficult (at best) to maneuver helicopters around or above them--thus making any attempt to rescue from the sides of the structure using ropes impossible.
4) the flames could have wreaked havok with the helicopter's fuel, should there be any leaks,
5) the TV antenna atop Tower #1 would make landing a helicopter there all but impossible anyway,

etc... But I spoke these words in a very calm & non-demeaning manner. She huffed a bit & took our food order, but another waitress actually delivered our food to us.

Our first waitress was at the register when we went to pay. She apologized, & seemed to be a different person--not at all the angry lady she was at first. As we walked towards the door, she said "Sir, I just felt so hopeless when I was watching it all on TV. Why couldn't someone do something?" I pointed to an Army recruiting poster on the wall by the door as we walked out & said "We are."

My wife said I embarrassed her by speaking out like that. My kids said "Dad, you rock!' I guess 4 out of 5 ain't bad?
