Woman has first face transplant

Surgeons in France have carried out the first face transplant, it has been reported.

The woman had lost her nose, lips and chin after being savaged by a dog.

In the controversial operation, tissues, muscles, arteries and veins were taken from a brain-dead donor and attached to the patient's lower face.

Doctors stress the woman will not look like her donor, but nor will she look like she did before the attack - instead she will have a "hybrid" face.

I have been keeping up on this. A lot of people are upset about this saying that we are taking medicine and science too far. I think it is great! Anything that can be used from someones death to help someones life I am all for.

thats right, rather than livin with out a face/jaw, it perfectly makes sense.

A lot of people are/will be upset untill such thing happens to them and they look at their faces in the mirror.

I've met some munters that could well benefit pre-mortem.

We talked about this recently. I just can't believe it took so long to actually carry out. I am not up at all on plastic surgery, so I'll be speaking with about as much expertise as you all, but the procedure doesn't sound like it would be very hard.

I'm confusing myself here, so don't worry if that made absolutely no sense.

What I can't believe is that the dog chewed her face off while she was asleep. She woke up, tried to light a cigarette and discovered she didn't have any lips to put it in

Some people sleep deeply.

Apparently she said something about having taken some meds the night before...I need some of those.
