A fictional military spaceplane

I came up with this idea for a spaceplane for a possible future screenplay. My screenplay is set 100 years in the future- 2107. This plane is a part of Earth's space defence system.

It's called the MiG-95 Drakon (English name "Dragon"). It has two crew members (a pilot and a WSO). It's capable of taking off from a runway and reaching low-earth orbit unaided. It accelerates from the ground at 3G, since going highly than that would not be good for the crew.

It can't be detected on radar (when its weapon bays are closed) and is hard to spot on IR. It doesn't have active camouflage (too much weight), but it has something similar- it can change its exterior to blend into its surroundings.

It has three internal weapons bays, each capable of carrying six AAMs or one nuclear missile (something akin to the SRAM). The missiles are guided by radar, IR or a system called "visual cueing"- a computer scans surrounding space for anything that looks out of place.

I've had a similar idea, but I can never put it on paper. The best I ever did was two pages worth and it was down right bad once I read it out loud.

You've certainly got me curious, especially with Hollywood's writers on strike, instead of a 100 years how about a lil less like 35-45 years away makes me feel like I can live that long and see something like that in real life.

All the best!

I hope that you find writing easier than many!

I assume "hard SF" from the above. In 100 years there are a few questions to ask y'self:

will there be a need for runways?

will stealth (even now) work with ginourmous heat plumes shooting out of the things arse?

and strategic back-story etc.

The Drakon can do VTOL, but runways are there in case that doesn't work.

The backstory is that the system was set up after a minor alien attack on Earth, Minor in the sense that only 1,000 people died.

Will you be doing any alien reverse engineering from down space craft from the attack? I don't mind reverse engineering just as long there are some human made tech still around.

Not really. The alien spacecraft was totalled by a nuke.

Errr,

If an alien spacecraft can survive the rigors of space travel, meaning being able to withstand radiation, survive countless meteorites and small asteriods at impact speeds greater than 32,000 mph, crossing the Kuperian belt that is filled with big and small asteriods, then the alien spacecraft can easily withstand an early 21st century nuke unless you write in the story that the nuke is 1G ton or more and is deadly accurate. Then it becomes more believable.

Another thing, you must find a way to compensate for g-forces out in space. To qualify for space combat, those planes must be able to withstand greater G-forces than ever possible today and not only that somehow mitigate those G-forces to levels tolerable for humans.
