Australian Liberal MP's: No Proof For Human-Driven Climate Change

I apologize if it is improper for new members to start threads so soon, but this news was too precious to hold back:

PM rejects MPs' views on climate change

August 13, 2007 - 10:04AM

Prime Minister John Howard says he does not agree with four of his coalition MPs who say there is no proof climate change is caused by human activity.

The four MPs made the dissenting remarks in a report tabled in federal parliament on Monday.

The Liberal backbenchers used a quote from media tycoon Rupert Murdoch about climate change posing clear catastrophic threats as an example of public statements made from a position of ignorance.

"No, I don't agree with their views," Mr Howard told parliament when asked about that comment.

He was also queried about the MPs referring to warming on planets like Mars, Jupiter, Triton, Pluto and Neptune having nothing to do with human activities.

"Prime minister, what planet are these government MPs on?" Labor environment spokesman Peter Garrett asked.

Mr Howard replied: "On the planet inhabited by people who hate the Australian coal industry."

The prime minister has accused Labor of threatening industry by setting an emissions reduction target without knowing the economic consequences

Whilst John Howard will distance himself from this 'outrage', I believe that his personal opinion may not coincide with his political standpoint. Howard was constantly branded a 'Climate Change Denier' and is hesitant to launch into drastic CO2 reduction policies.

I am overjoyed to see these brave MP's fighting to restore reason to the global warming hysteria, but I fear this will simply further hurt Howard's chances of winning the next election.

What say you, WAB, would a similar move by politicians in your country be met with such ridicule?

.

Yeah - we have some CRAZY with a K enviromentalists who insist on self-flogging the nation for the smallest things, and even worse they're now in Government .

That said, human driven or not, it seems to be happening, so it's time to do something, pity no one seems to know what .

Let's explore this option. What do you propose we do?

I believe it's because the liberals know that there's little point in butchering our economy (we have a large aluminium industry, and are riding the commodity boom, and it's all powered by coal) when:
a) China, India and the US are just going to make our CO2 contributions look like a drop in the ocean.
b) there is no proven link between CO2 emissions and climate change.

They may now feel that the ramifications of disagreeing with the public are not enough to deter them from what they feel is the right decision.
