Rising Tides by Tayor Anderson (Destroyermen #5).
    http://www.amazon.com/Rising-Tides-D....../B00466ISOY
Got the hardcover for $13.40 (2 day free shipping), Kindle was $12.99! Not much of a discount, I'd like to see the ebook versions a whole lot cheaper before I switch over. I might end up just using both.

The Surgeon's Apprentice by John Biggins.

Amazon.com: The Surgeon's Apprentice (9780956542328): John Biggins: Books

By same author who wrote the Otto Prohaska series, this is even better. Buying this was interesting, a new title only in paperback and is a "print on demand" from the publisher. The way of things to come?

Soldat. Good book so far. Depicts a lot of the pre war tension leading up to the sitzkrieg and the like.

Can anyone recommend a well written fighter pilot memoir or the like preferably taking place in north africa or the eastern front?

Halfway through Rebel Private: Front and Rear by William Fletcher. A bit different from a typical U.S. Civil War book in that it reads more like a diary or memoirs of a private soldier, rather than a biography of a General or an analysis of battles.

    W. Fletcher belonged to one of Hood's Texas units, and saw combat through the entire war. What I find particularly striking is just how bloodthirsty this guy was. He is unapologetic for his descriptions of "row upon row of Yankee dead" that gladdened his heart, and for looting the dead, etc. This book was written near the end of the man's life, so is a bit disjointed, but you can tell that even circa 1910, this man carried around love of the lost cause, and hatred of the Yankees.

It is also very obvious that Fletcher was a helluva soldier.

    Very good read so far.
