    The Chosen by Chaim Potok

Hey guys, don't any of you read normal novels? Like interesting and exciting novels that EVERYONE can read? Out of all the novels i've looked up to read (from you guys posting) I'm too afraid to go out and spend my hard earned $$$ on them. Maybe because i'm not in the army or something. Most of the novels posted are war related.

I heard the Twighlight series was excellent, and NO ONE mentioned that!

If anyone can post normal novels they've read, PLEASE doo, i'm very interested in creating a book shelf that I can read along with my siblings... Thanks!

I thought the NBJPE's hyprocitical lifestyle and the rooster coop mentality of the disadvantaged sections was something we Indians can relate to, so its worth a read, still, overall I found the novel over-hyped and unrealistic, but then again, just not my genre I guess Did you read it?

    You mean like Kamasutra?

I heard the Twighlight series was excellent, and NO ONE mentioned that!
Heard that too, but they are too much the teenybopper kind

On a related note, I used to rent a book every couple of days but now prefer loading e-books, both are excellent value-for-money options if you are not sure you want to spend loads on building a personal collection at the moment.

Arent those the vampire highschool books? YUCK
I make a point of avoiding the whole school of vamp related trash that gets pumped out every year.

If you are looking for a better grade of book try Pandora's Star by Peter F Hamilton. Excellent read and available as an ebook i think.

Just finished Stephen Jay Gould's The Panda's Thumb and The Mismeasure of Man. Both very excellent. Hadn't read much of Gould before. Excellent writer, and I like his views on the philosophy of science. Lots of cool historical tidbits.

Nice. Love Chaim Potok. Normal novels? That's a pretty broad category. What do you like? Historical? Mystery? Western? Lawyer? Sci-fi? Fantasy? Comedy? Romance? High falutin' literary crap?

I read Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series recently, that was really fun, if you like semi-absurd alternate history fantasy comedy with lots of literary allusions for book lovers like me. And I just finished Poland, by James Michener. That was quite good. Very long, but absorbing.

edit: Oh, and although there are plenty of plugs for him here already, Terry Pratchett rules. Douglas Adams caliber.

LOLL From what I know they're better than the R.L Stein collections. I haven't read those novels, but I heard great things about them. Once a favourite, always a favourite.

I've read "The Beach" 3-4 times before the stupid movie came out which ruined it, haven't read the novel since.

Will definately look into it, thanks

Tried e-books with "The Wheel Of Time" series, hated sitting upright and reading. I'm the laying-down-in-bed-with-lamp-on-reading type of guy

I know I probably sounded too vague with the "normal" comment. Well, I know i'm not into horror, western, lawyer, and mystery; I've read quite a few of those and liked em though, even "A Simple Plan"

I just bought my copy of "The Chosen" because it was given to me by my professor in highschool, but for some odd reason I did not get a chance to read it. I've moved two times since then and I couldn't find my copy so I just went out n bought it, going to give it a shot.

Cool, thanks for those, going to definately look em up and then order them online (cheaper that way)

I've finally got back into reading, been too long.

No my friend. The idea I had of the White Tiger was that it went probably went too far on portraying 'reality'. I'll give it a try when I'm back in desh anyway. Right now I'm lovin reading Salman Rushdie....on the verge of finishing Satanic Verses then I have this ancestors tale, and a history of god to finish before I buy Midnights children and then read The Meditations.

Well that is definitely 3 distinctly different things. I'm sure someone has some suggestions I need to check if the ones I thought were good are still in print.

Yeah, it is but when mother Britains story can be told in a single volume 'An utterly impartial history of Britain or 2000 years of upper class idiots incharge' I think the much younger Amerigo Vespucci's namesake can manage easily! )
