    Your favorite books?

Hello everyone, I just acquired a kindle and am going on a reading spree. Considering the titans of intellectualism that abound here, I am interested in the books that have challenged your thinking the most and caused you to re-evaluate your opinion on x,y,z

Also, the books that were damn good reads.

To keep it short, I'd say the top 10 of each, but no hassle, feel free to go overboard.

Well as long as you have LOTS of free time, start with the master..Gibbon's Decline and Fall. 200 plus years and nobody has ever come close.
I have somehow crawled midway through the first volume but i just dont have the time to sit down think and give it the reading it deserves.

The thing that worries me about the Kindle is upgrades - getting caught in another technology cycle - where new hardware is needed regularly (like PC, cell phones, music players, movies) - adding books seems like overkill when I own so many regular books, but the Kindle book prices and portability are intreiging

Over the last year I have been reading John Grisham's novels.
    John Grisham » Books

He was formerly a lawyer and writes a type of "legal thriller." A number of his books have been made into movies, so he has gained a wide audience.

I'm afraid I only read non-fiction, haven't found a use for fiction yet (though I did read a lot of fiction when I was younger); top ten books, in no particular order:

"The Rise And Fall Of The Third Reich", by William Shirer

"The Rise And Fall Of The Geat Powers", by Paul Kennedy

"A Distant Mirror: The Calamitous 14th Century", by Barbara Tuchman

"Holy War: The Crusades And Their Impact On Today's World", by Karen Armstrong

    "Diplomacy", by Henry Kissinger

"Cobra II: The Inside Story Of The Invasion And Occupation Of Iraq", by Michael R. Gordon & General Bernard E. Trainor

"The Utility Of Force: The Art Of War In The Modern World", by Rupert Smith

"Fiasco: The American Military Adventure In Iraq", by Thomas E. Ricks

"Dreadnought: Britain, Germany, And The Coming Of The Great War", by Robert K. Massie

"A Country Made By War: From The Revolution To Vietnam - The Story Of America's Rise To Power", by Goeffrey Perret
