  • Iranian "Nimitz-class" mockup

Apparently Iranian military is building a ship almost the same size and deck layout of US Navy Nimitz class aircraft carrier. See the satellite photo below. I don't think it is going to be used in a movie, if so they could make it out of cardboard and didn't have to be in a full blown shipyard.

May be they are going to tow it to middle of the Persian Gulf and below it up for propaganda purposes when they broadcast the taped video in the news and claim they have blown up an American aircraft carrier. Or just claim they have built an aircraft carrier and parade it in upcoming military show.

US intelligent agents say they even have printed number "68" on the side of the island in bold white numbers.

Blow it up at sea with a ballistic missile? That'd kill two birds with one missile (propaganda and R&D testing).

      What's the significance of 68?

Don't worry, it'll probably sink as soon as it hits the water.

Perhaps they will use it for their "stealth" fighter. They seem to be working up to it- apparently they have tested it strapped to the back of a tractor, a logical step in the evolution of any advanced carrier borne invisible air superiority fighter.

Star in a movie called "Sink the Nimitz"?

The already did that; it was called "Tranformers II".

We'll know when they're near completion if they start making holes near the waterline where the oars will go...

Well, according to Alalam (English version of state owned and regulated TV) they are in process of making a movie about Iran Air FL-655 which was accidentally shot down by US navy on July 1988 in which this mockup will replicate CVN-68.

But according to Wiki at that time Nimitz was en route to western Pacific to provide security during 1988 Saul Olympic games then started sailing toward Persian Gulf on Sept. 2nd 1988. Also why do they have to have a full size replica being made in a full blown shipyard? When they were making the movie "Titanic" they used a huge one piece flat cardboard with Titanic painted on it.
