Giuliani For President

Here's a republican I may consider voting for. Maybe.

Quote:
Giuliani: Next Year I Will Consider Presidential Run

Sunday, October 02, 2005

COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said Sunday he will contemplate next year whether to run for president in 2008.

"I will be considering it next year," Giuliani said during a visit to Denmark. But he added that playing with the idea of running for the Republican nomination for president did not mean he would actually do it.

"Sometime you warm up and get ready and you don't get in and pitch," he told reporters, in a baseball analogy.

Giuliani who was praised for his leadership following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, thanked Danish firefighters who raised 52,000 kroner ($8,400) in support of their New York colleagues.

"To us it was the only thing we could do, raise money and show our support," firefighter Jens Hjorth said.

Eight firefighters from the station raised the money by recording a CD with six songs called "The Skyline Changed." They sold 27,000 copies.

On Sunday, the band members handed over a copy of the CD to Giuliani, who in return gave them a New York Fire Department hat.

Giuliani was in Denmark to speak at a business leadership conference in the Danish capital on Monday.

In 2000, Giuliani ran for the U.S. Senate, but dropped out after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Rudy Giuliani would win by a landslide in a general election. The far right wing of the party would be unlikely to vote for him in the primaries though.

How would the republican elite and the republican voters react to a black female president (Condi)?

I cannot speak for the Rep elite, but this conservative Democrat is not so sure she is ready for ANY female president. (Although, Geena Davis did a good job last week. )

I would consider voting for Hillary, but as of this morning, and other than her, I don't think any woman, black orange or white, would get my vote. She would have to have one hell of a campaign to change my mind on that.

Condi has already stated that she doesn't want to run for President and would like to return to academia following her service as the Secretary of State. The problem with this hypothetical is that she is only on the record in the realm of foreign policy - there's nothing that I'm aware of to judge her on domestic issues, other than that she is a vigorous defender of the President whenever someone tries to play the race card against Bush 43.

Personally, I think she is equipped to handle the leadership responsibilities of the job and have no issues with race/sex.

Rudy would do so well, all popularity from how well he handled 9-11 aside, because his pro-choice stance and philandering would undercut key Democrat issues. With Condi, the "republican elite" and far right won't accept her because she is a bit moderate regarding abortion and other issues. They're both great leaders, but it would come to specific issues would help/harm them.

Condoleezza is okay, I don't have anything against her. But there is just something about her that I think makes me a little uncomfortable. It may be something trivial, I cannot quite put my finger on it. I think it would keep me from voting for her, though.

Yep. Good moderates like Giuliani often get shot down by their own party.
