An honest Indian's opinion on Kashmir floating in a sea of lies
This is one heck of a brave, honest Indian woman. Make her president ooops, i forgot, ceremonial roles are only for Muslims in India
Arundhati Roy demands withdrawal of Indian army from Kashmir * Blames Indian media for presenting a rosy picture * Says occupation has surpassed the excesses by Pinochet in Chile LAHORE: The Indian media has failed to highlight the plight of the ordinary Kashmiris who have been subjected to Indian repression in the name of freedom and peace. This was stated by renowned Indian author and Booker Prize winner, Arundhati Roy, on Tuesday as she attended a meeting of academics, social activists, human rights volunteers and students in New Delhi. “Indian media is suffering from schizophrenia as its reports portray zero reflection about the reality in Jammu and Kashmir. Indian media is busy painting a rosy picture of normalcy, which is absolutely false,” she claimed at a meeting that focused on “Enforced Disappearances in Jammu and Kashmir”. A news report in The Hindu also quoted her as saying that “Indians have no right to talk about whatever is happening in Palestine and Iraq unless we discuss and highlight the atrocities being committed in the Valley. The issue is not just related to the freedom of Kashmiris, it is a matter of concern for all Indians. What farcical peace are we talking about?” She added: “In the global arena, India is revered for its democracy and Gandhian values, which is nothing but a lie. Indian occupation in Jammu and Kashmir has surpassed the excesses of Pinochet in Chile. “Everyday, ordinary Kashmiris are being subjected to humiliation, and we say peace is returning to the Valley. During my recent visit to the State, I found numerous cases of repression, but the Government is not ready to accept it.” The participants of the meeting demanded withdrawal of special powers from the Army and paramilitary forces and appealed to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights to call a separate convention on disappeared people. daily times monitor http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default...-9-2005_pg4_17 Last edited by Hongkongfuey : 09-02-2005 at 22:56 PM. |

Today, Pakistan—America's ally in this new war—sponsors insurgents who cross the border into Kashmir in India. Pakistan lauds them as 'freedom fighters', India calls them 'terrorists'.- Arundhati Roy Ohh...here she hoo-haas about Narmada dam. What about Mangla dam?Which the Pakistani government (read dictatorship) is hell bent creating just to feed their greedy Punjabi feudal lords at the cost of poor Mirpuris.

That betch has not had her near and dear ones killed by terrorists. She has not had to pick up the dead bodies of her children (ripped by AK-47s)from the soldiers family colony in Kaluchak. So what she says means zilch to Indians.Hongkongfeuy, You can post such things till the cows come home but it will change nothing in Kashmir. Don't you have a life.

Yes, character assasination is the next step. I could have forecast that. But really, no need for all the childish name calling. Anyhow, to sum it up, you lot cannot argue with her points or with her credentials. Sydney Peace Prize winner, 2004, Booker Prize Winner. She makes some legitimate points, and you lot call for her banning from India. It's like what she says in her piece, India's Ghandian values are nothing but a lie.
