Bush: We Stand with Britain
We stand together, says Bush
>By Holly Yeager and Edward Alden in Washington >Published: July 11 2005 22:41 | Last updated: July 11 2005 22:41 >> The US stands with Britain in the face of terrorism and will continue to fight “until this enemy is defeated”, President George W. Bush said on Monday. “Just as America and Great Britain stood together to defeat the totalitarian ideologies of the 20th century, we now stand together against the murderous ideologies of the 21st century,” said Mr Bush. His speech at the Federal Bureau of Investigation academy in Quantico, Virginia, was planned before the London attacks, but the bombings gave his remarks new urgency. While critics of the war in Iraq have called it a distraction from the war on terror, Mr Bush continued to link the two. “In the war on terror, Iraq is now the central front,” the president said. “The terrorists fight in Iraq because they know that the survival of their hateful ideology is at stake.” Mr Bush gave an update on his administration’s strategy in the war on terror, as well as its accomplishments. “When terrorists spend their days and nights struggling to avoid death or capture, they are less capable of arming and training and plotting new attacks,” he said. But he acknowledged: “We know that there's no such thing as perfect security and that in a free and open society it is impossible to protect against every threat.” In a CNN/Gallup poll released on Friday, 47 per cent said the London bombings made them more worried about another attack in the US, while 39 per cent said they were not more worried. Homeland security officials have taken a high public profile since the London blasts, underscoring steps taken to guard against future attacks. But Harry Reid, the Democratic leader in the Senate, complained that the Bush administration had not spent enough to protect US cities. He said the US spent more in Iraq in a single month than the annual budget for police, fire and other emergency response services. “Failure in Iraq is not an option and we will continue to support our troops but we must do more to support the war on terror here at home.” [color=olive]He, of course, fails to mention that police and fire are funded at the local level.[/olive] To help win the war on terror, Mr Bush called on Congress to renew the Patriot Act, enacted quickly after the attacks of September 11 2001 to give investigators a range of new tools to pursue suspected terrorists. Portions of law are set to expire at the end of the year. http://news.ft.com/cms/s/68aa5920-f2...00e2511c8.html

I think Bush's War on Terror was launched AFTER the WTC carnage, if I recall correctly. I don't think any country opposed the idea of a global war on terror.
I wonder what he could have done but not launch a war on terror. Given the American psyche for action, I don't think he would be in office, if he just twiddled his thumbs and read out a passage from the Bible and hoped that the country forgives him for not taking any action! |

1. Ah, I see jimmy22 is back. Hasn't posted since 28 March.
2. It's quite a coincidence that he's just started posting again after being gone so long, and just after LUND got banned. Jimmy LUND, I believe he called himself. 3. This Jimmy LUND guy was tentatively associated with another poster. I may have mentioned in passing that I suspected LUND was a VERY offensive ex-poster's sock puppet, up to the same old tricks that got that poster banned, and the sad, pathetic little twerp was trying to worm his way back into our community, but his style and content gave him away, as well as one of our posters - the esteemed Ray - noticing that those handles names both mean 'penis' in Urdu. 4. Anyway, let's change subjects. In what I'm sure is a completely unrelated matter, jimmy22 first showed up on the WAB on 22 Feb. Didn't one of the insects that infest this board from time to time and have to be dealt with*, temporarily get himself banned about that time? And then, when that poster's ban's time limit ran out, and he started posting again...jimmy22 stopped posting. 5. Until yesterday. 6. Just something odd I noticed. I'm sure it's nothing. *Now that I think about it, the poster I referred to in my Para. 3 was the same guy I was referring to in my Para. 4. Huh. Weird, ain't it?

Are You Serious? I am a Democrat and even I cannot find a way to blame Bush for that. There was a quote in US News this past week ( I know, I know) that Guiliani made about having been in NYC on Sept 11 and in London at the time of the bombings - Why don't you just blame him, too, while you are at it?

jimmy22, I got your number, you little punk.
I know you're lulldapull, and LUND, and probably LOKI, too. lull drew a temporary ban for himself by being a racist prick on 25 Feb. That's the very day you introduced yourself and started posting. You posted for a couple of days, then lull's ban expired. He returned; you dropped off. You didn't post again until 8 March - three days after lull was permanently banned for being the tumor that he is. Now, you're back again, just after one Jimmy LUND got banned a few days ago. Ray is the one that picked up on your very apt 'lulldapull/LUND association with the Urdu word for 'penis'. I'm a better analyst than you are a lying, sneaking, deceitful wart of a pathetic little boy, you excrement. You can't even do THAT right, it seems. What do we have to do to scrape your remnants off of our shoes? |
