Zte To Edit Key Itu Standard For Optical Network Technology

http://www.telephonyworld.com/cgi-bi...&id=1119312500

ZTE Corporation (Shenzhen: 000063, Hong Kong: 0763), China's largest listed telecommunications manufacturer and leading wireless solutions provider, has been selected by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to edit a new recommendation, G.adc, for the standardisation of adaptive dispersion compensators.

ZTE was appointed as the editor of the recommendation, which will improve the performance, efficiency and dynamic performance of adaptive optical networks, at the ITU-T SG15 meeting in Geneva, last month. At the meeting, the Corporation submitted a total of 13 contributions on ITU-T recommendations, including two joint submissions with China Unicom and China Mobile.

"This is yet further proof of ZTE's determination to drive forward the application and standardisation of a wide range of technologies," said Dr. Wang Jiaying, optical networks standardisation research supervisor at ZTE. "ZTE recognises the importance of this technology for next generation optical transport systems and we are delighted to continue our work with the ITU."

In November 2004, ZTE finished drafting a recommendation, G.665, on optical fiber Raman amplification technology, following a one-year collaboration between several member companies of SG15/Q17, including Nortel, Lucent and Corning. Also, last year, ZTE was given the responsibility to draft standards for the requirements for crucial end-to-end quality of service (QoS) architecture for next generation networks (NGNs).

"Over the years that the ITU and ZTE have been working together, ZTE has shown its technical expertise and its dedication to research and development," said Mr. Zhao Houlin, director of ITU-T. "We are very pleased to have ZTE Corporation participating in the editing of this recommendation."

ZTE plays an active role at the ITU, and has been nominated as editor of six new standards relating to optical communications, next generation networks (NGNs) and information security in mobile communications. A member of all three ITU sectors - telecommunication development (ITU-D), telecommunication standardisation (ITU-T) and radiocommunication (ITU-R) - ZTE is working to develop tomorrow's networks and services. The Corporation has hosted several important conferences and participated in more than 30 international standardisation groups, including the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), the CDMA Development Group (CDG), the DSL Forum, and the Network Processing Forum (NPF).

ZTE is committed to developing new technologies: the corporation has invested about 10% of its revenues in research and development; more than 8,200 of all ZTE personnel are involved in this area and more than 6,000 of the 25,000-strong workforce have Masters Degrees, and 400 have PhDs. The corporation owns 2,500 patents, with most of these being for original innovations, and operates 13 research and development centres worldwide, including establishments in Sweden, the USA and South Korea.

About ZTE: ZTE Corporation is China's largest listed telecommunications equipment manufacturer and wireless solutions provider specializing in offering customized network solutions for telecom carriers worldwide. The company develops and manufactures telecommunications equipment for fixed, mobile, data and optical networks, intelligent networks and next generation networks as well as mobile phones.
