LAHORE- Enraged by the desecration of the Holy Quran by the US interrogators at Guantanamo Bay detention centre, the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has decided to agitate this sacrilege, under the consideration that it is a religious and legal duty of its members to decry the matter at the international forums.
The General House of the Bar, which met here Monday to consider and vote on a condemnation resolution moved against this ‘outrageous act’ of the American troops, deputed senior advocate and expert on international law, Dr Farooq Hassan, to draft a petition that will be dispatched to the international organisations, including UN and Amnesty International, urging them to discharge their global, legal and moral responsibilities on the sacrilege of the Holy Quran and to also ask from the US as to why the Muslims are being kept in Guantanamo prison without trial.
With the Bar President Justice (Retd) Fakharun Nisa Khokhar in the chair, the Bar decided to try the perpetrators of this heinous crime by filing petitions in the Pakistani courts in addition to holding a protest rally in the City against this profanity, for which date and time will be fixed by the Bar president.
The resolution presented by Ansarul Haq, advocate, strongly flayed desecration of the Holy Quran and demanded of the Pakistani government to seek custody of the responsible US solders.
Addressing members of the Bar in a charged atmosphere, Dr Farooq Hassan, advocate, called upon the Foreign Office to summon US President George Bush to seek explanation on the incident, which has jolted the entire Islamic world. It would be a big ‘curse’ on our rulers, if they failed to summon the US president on this dolorous act of the American soldiers, he added.
Dr Farooq asked Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri to resign from the ministry since he too was a member of this Bar which was raising voice against the desecration of Holy Quran.
In the same breath, he also denounced the statement of President General Pervez Musharraf about Iranian nuclear development.
Justice (Retd) Fakharun Nisa Khokhar said in the US-sponsored New World Order, Islam had been described as a major challenge.
This Order also urges upon the West to stand against it. She put a question to everyone as to why the Muslims, being held at Guantanamo Bay, were not being tried and the world not being informed as to what charges they faced.
The Bar president maintained that the Pakistani rulers, by giving Pakistan nationals in the custody of the US, had facilitated victory of US President George Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair in the previous elections.
Criticising the government for not showing a strong reaction over this grievous incident, former Secretary LHCBA Azam Nazir Tarar said no high public functionary, except a weak reaction by an officer of the Foreign Office, had given a strongly-worded statement to denounce the heinous crime.
Tarar said: “Our rulers have become slave to the US, which immediately after 9/11 had openly come out against the Muslims.
Former Bar President Ahmad Awais said the desecration of the Holy Quran had exposed the secularism of the so-called civilised world.
He accused the US of deliberately allowing its soldiers to desecrate the Muslim holy book, as it wanted this method to use as a means to gauge the religious sentiments of the Muslims and their attachment with the Holy Quran.
Awais said: “It is high time for us to rise against the American designs,” adding the desecration of the Holy Quran had proved true the words of George Bush in which he had declared crusade against Islam.
He urged the rulers to ask Washington for the handing over of the desecrators, as Pakistan did in the case of Aimal Kansi.

Pakistan had no options but to hand over Kansi.

In return for being nice, they were given money and military stuff.

If Pakistan did not hand over, then there was a good possibility that US would just walk in assisted by (guess who?).

Now, lets see what Pakistan can do to the US?

I had no idea that the UN was charged with protecting the Quran!

Oddly, Musharraf has handed Al Libbi over to the US. I expected them to hang him for his assassination attempts on Mush. Now we're stuck with him.

Just check if he has any chechnyan connections and if he does, hand him over to the Russian authorities. They would love to have him.

Why can't people face realities? None can do a damn to the US. Therefore, the best one can do is post a demarche, rather than give vent to impractical hot air.
