Happy Mayday

I am curious. I know in the USA paid vacations, a shorter work week, sick pay and employer health insurance have been the biggest benefits beyond pay as a result of the labor movement. What have some of the benefits been in your nation.

We don't have May day, we have Labour Day on the fourth Monday of October.
We also celebrate Poets day.

The Rust belt,

Job flight overseas because we cannot afford to pay workers what they want

The welfare state transferring to the employer and the government vice personal responsibility. (Why should you get paid for not working, want to take a vacation save up for it and why should your employer be responsible for your insurance beyond covering workplace accidents?)

And hey we are from the same country.

Isn't it fitting that Unions and Socialist/Communist states have the same holiday. Similar ideas

Support Communism, Look for that Union Label

Gone is the "May Golden week" in China, in favour of more traditional Chinese holidays.

It is a part of CCP's attempt of identity shrift, and the relief to the infamous domestic traffic. However, peasant labours are not happy. Spread-out short holidays are much harder to fulfil, leading to more working hours.

In Ireland there's no public holiday, but tons of festivals - for us (and our Gaelic brothers in Scotland and the Isle of Man), the first of May was a very important day in Celtic Polytheism, it's Beal Taine, anglicised as Beltane, the dawning of the pastural summer.

I went to a fireworks display and reconstruction festival - AFAIK it's one of the oldest holidays in the world, and it's amazing it's survived.

We also had spectacular weather, the summer truly IS dawning .
