I like them - the lifespan is excellent, and I've had no problem ever reading under one, though it seems others have.
I also would note they definetly are more economical to use - though banning the older types seems a bit bizarre .

The great irony coming from a chemical background is that CFLs still contribute to hefty environmental pollution. They are made with small amounts of mercury which builds up, especially in light of their being discarded with regular trash.

Just a thought, if they are expensive to manufacture and purchase, they must use a lot more energy to produce too.
Anyone done a lifetime energy balance calculation for the tradeoff...

Could it be something like all the elaborate calculations done to get the carbon footprint for the Shampoo to the shelfstore, while the actual energy usage will depend mainly on whether the person takes a bath in hot or cold shower and how much water is used for the bath?
![]() An educated and concerned energy user can anyday do better to conserve energy than these kind of regulations ever will. |

fluorescents?...i hate them because white light is not natural...it kills every color.. for exemple we forbid the use of fluorescents in our dealers showrooms because you simply can not distinguish the differences between two colors(not black and white of course but closer ones .in my house i use 60 to 100Watt bulbs...
