I hadn't realized that zraver was quite that much of a pinko commie-symp disloyal red-backed fellow-travellin' traitor.

Zraver I love you. From this point on you are my honorary communist brother in arms

Well ok maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but really . . . . . I thought you were another die hard republican. Your sane words bring back hope to my mind. Maybe not all Americans are busy sniffing their own farts.

Actually it's done quite well by us, but since we're one of the very few countries in the world that have actually instituted it I doubt you've seen or heard much about it. Why so bitter?

Seperately, a historical falsehood is in danger of going uncorrected here. Despite personal prejudices & covetousnesses, it is entirely inaccurate to classify the US as an empire. Be advised that I speak here not as a proud US National, which I am, but as an objective "citizen of the globe" if you will. The States are in actuality a force for selfless service & global love unlike any in history, with truth & justice for all. In the Global War on Terror the US has saved the world's greatest expression of diplomatic effort, the United Nations, which would have fallen into oblivion had not its resolutions been enforced by the US led coalition in SW Asia.

And now for the superior summary of the subject of US Imperialism. General Powell was allegedly asked about the sterotypical "empire-building" of the US in SW Asia. He is said to have responded; "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return"

Blue, It is not easy to understand American "ideology" (if there is such a thing). Remember, America is a nation which was preparing to bomb India, a fellow democracy, in 1971 to protect a dictator in a neighbouring country. So now, tell me, are we really to blame for not understanding the drivers and motivations of the American mind? Though, I don't think America is an imperial power, but I do think America is a bit distant to powers which don't want to be under the US wing, and just be a seperate sphere of their own; not one to challenge the US ofcourse, just one to remain seperate and maintain a free independent foriegn policy without the pressure of keeping certain allies in a jolly mood.

I'm talking about New Zealand where I come from. America doesn't have a free trade system.
