Seems there is alot of leeway in determining who qualifies to "return". This guy's take on the situation I find interesting:

The ex-russian kids from the original story are Sephardic? So, they are marginalized to begin with, or at least not a part of the Israeli elite class. Or do I have this backwards...
Israel has alot of problems, and I find it small wonder that a small fascist group would rear its head now and then. Anywhere there is great social discord will have some fringe elements turning to this sort of doctrine, I think. And that would be just above and beyond the simple bigots. |

This really isn't as extraordinary as it seems.
a) People are capable of self-hate b) They may be attracted to the sick power/domination parts of Hitler's ideology (unfortunately something which appeals to young, immature but charged morons) Last edited by HistoricalDavid : 10-03-2007 at 22:14 PM. |

And either way, Ashkenazi/Sephardic differences and "ruling class" talk is stuff of 50 years ago. For the most part now, it doesn't matter. Especially considering how many immigrants from the FSU live in crap conditions even though they're Ashkenazi. The real thing that makes a difference is how long a family has been in the country, and what kind of connections they have. Most Sephardic people have been living there for quite some time. |
