House race
Anyone watching the House races? I expect a slight GOP gain.

Why bother? Gerrymandering has made most House races a foregone conclusion. Cook's has estimated there are, at best, only 20 to 30 competitive House races this election cycle.
I will, however, be happy if Rep. Jerry Weller (R-11th IL) is defeated. He's the Congressman for my hometown and is, get this, marrying the daughter of former Guatemalan military strongman Efran Rios Mont, which one human-rights group called a "genocidal neo-facist". Weller's father-in-law is only responsible for the deaths of, say, around 30,000 Mayan peasants.

So, are you saying the daughter is guilty of the father's crimes? Seems pretty unfair to me.

She's a sitting legislator in Guatemala and a member of the right-wing political party her father formed, leads, and on whose ticket he ran for president of Guatemala for. She also has not repudiated her father's actions during the Guatemalan civil war or during his presidency. In fact, the party (I forget the name of it) is sort of a family business as one of her brothers is also a leading member of the party leadership. Dynastic political families tend to be the norm in countries like Guatemala -- so it's diffuclt to say clearly if she is "independent" of her father in Guatemalan politics. Needless to say, these are not people a Congressman should be associating with, Democrat or Republican.

I agree with that part, which is why I didn't bother to dispute it.
I won't convict someone without evidence of criminal activity though, and I have heard nothing of her support for any crimes.
