Cyclone George and the 'Selkirk Settler'

Last week the huge cat 4 cyclone [ George] swept down the Western Australian coast.
Here are four oics of the seas experienced by the bulk iron ore carrier, the Selkirk Settler.

Seas like that weigh hundreds of tons. It is easy to dismiss it as just water, but during the war such seas sweeping the decks could bend gun barrels and crush railings.
That ship is an iron ore carrier too and was fully loaded and on her way north. Hard to believe that an iron ship full of iron ore can float at all let alone in seas like that mate.

Hi there 101st Airborne

The images look very similar to the ones at the bottom of
http://www.boatnerd.com/pictures/fle...spruceglen.htm
showing SELKIRK SETTLER in a North Atlantic storm in 1987.

These images seem to have taken a life of their own on the Internet.

These images were taken by Capt. George Ianiev (Second Mate at the time) on February 13th, 1987 during an eastbound passage from Tampa, Florida to Ghent, Belgium.

On a sidenote, MV Selkirk Settler was bought by Canada Steamship Lines and renamed the "Spruceglen (2)" in December 2002.
