I know but for me it's an absolute nightmare.

remember, Dublin has 1 million people, versus like 9 million in LA.

I once drove an American Captain to Quebec Area. Going through Montreal, he was white as a ghost. I asked him what's wrong.

His reply was "We have bumper to bumper traffic in LA too ... but not at 60 miles an hour."

He's used to the parking lot known as LA around 5pm every day. Wait 2 more hours or move a bit away from city center and you get the 60mph bumper to bumper traffic.

It's either faster or complete stop during rain as Angelenos can't drive in the rain. Some want to get home faster. The others have to wait as the first type crash their cars.

Here are some photos I took a few years ago on the way back from Las Vegas. The traffic stopped due to a fatal car crash.

It was about 100F outside in the hot August day in the Californian desert.
