The "for some balance bit" refers to a still picture that isn't representative of the action being performed. (i.e. gesturing at an audience).
Much like the top picture. I have seen hundreds of famous people "caught in this pose". It always makes me wonder if they shouldn't go for "posing therapy" like some politicans go for speech lessons so that they come across better.

Usually when famous people are caught in the "pose" it is a still capture of them waving at a crowd, or raising their hand to wave.
