Osama bin Laden calls for jihad against Israel

DUBAI: Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden has called for jihad over the Israeli offensive in Gaza in a new audio tape that appeared on Islamist

websites on Wednesday.

"God has bestowed us with the patience to continue the path of jihad for another seven years, and seven and seven years," bin Laden said in the tape that was dated in the current Islamic month.

Bin Laden also condemns Arab governments for preventing their people from acting to ``liberate Palestine.''

The tape was entitled "A Call for Jihad to Stop the Aggression against Gaza". "The question is, can America continue its war with us for several more decades to come? Reports and evidence would suggest otherwise," he said.

The authenticity of the tape could not immediately be verified.

The Palestinian death toll from the 19-day-old Israeli offensive against the Islamist Hamas movement in Gaza has risen to about 1,000. Israel says 13 Israelis have been killed.

The Saudi-born terrorist said the global financial crisis had exposed the waning influence of the United States in world affairs and would in turn weaken its ally Israel.

More than 60 messages have been broadcast by bin Laden, his second-in-command Ayman al-Zawahri and their allies since the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001.

Last week Zawahri, in an Internet message, called on Muslims to strike Western and Israeli targets around the world over Israel's Gaza raids.

Well see if I was a borderline jihadist the calls for action against the west would really sway me. After all since his first round of semi-successfull attacks he's been hunted like a mad-dog and in hiding.

Yep, not much new here. Jihad against Israel is SOP for AQ, Hamas and others. I think Hamas has Destruction of the Jewish State written in the charter...#1 on the "things-to-do" list.

Yeah, another coward who has been marginalized since he cant show his face thus it getting blown off and then hung. He means little now and sooner or later they will catch up with him make no mistake and the check will get paid.

Again, Like many terrorist organizations they must be directed by cowadice men hiding out in caves and holes in the ground while they preach theyre hatered and their followers die. So much for having any kind of honor and going down with your ship and showing leadership by example eh Osama? PPussyy!

Seriously, I'm getting bored with Bin Laden already. I don't think he still weild any significant power. It'd be much more worth noticing if it comes from the Ayatollah of Iran.

In a way Bin Laden is right... they will keep at it over and over till they win.

The US and the West, being democratic free countries will only fight untill the government of the day decides not to. In 5 years time if the US decides to withdraw from the fight in many places due to monetary and other constraints by default Al Queda (or whatever Islamic movement) will win because they will never lay down their arms untill they accomplish their goals. They will never be 'voted out' and they definatelly dont have an 'electorate' that can give them the boot if they are not happy with the conduct of the war.

As long as there are Western influences in the Middle East there will be this clash of civilizations. As long as we rely on it for our energy there will always be Western influence in the Mideast.

I cant see a viable short or medium term solution. The sooner we can break our dependance on oil we can let them have the Mideast all to themselves, build a wall around it for all i care and never the twain shall meet again, untill then.. we continue
