By Ernesto Londono, Washington Post Foreign Service
BAGHDAD, Jan. 8 -- Of all the missives the top U.S. military commander in Iraq has signed, probably none generated more cheer than the one issued this week authorizing all U.S. troops to drink beer.
Two catches: only two per person and only on Super Bowl night.
The waiver, issued Wednesday by Gen. Ray Odierno, marks the first time all American service members in Iraq will be allowed to break the ban on liquor in combat zones without risking being court-martialed.

I have trouble believing what I'm reading.
I'll let you know if this actually happens here at my base camp, because I honestly doubt it, not that I care since I drink beer for the taste and enjoy O'Douls, Coors NA, St. Pauli Girl NA & Bitburger here already.
Yes I actually do enjoy the taste and yes I actually do read the articles. Laugh if you like.
Anyway I have a pass coming up in Qatar in a few months and expected to have lager there anyway unless I'm misinformed.

Good for the guys. They deserve it.
These folks are some of the more duplicitous I have seen. It is the same in Baghdad. They have their alcohol and "lovers" but impose their "beliefs", which they do not follow, upon those who liberated them. Likewise, the PC crowd says they do not want to offend the Iraqi people but then moved into Saddam's palaces like they were the next king. They should have turned the palaces over to the Iraqis for housing. They were built on the backs of the Iraqi people for the benefit of Saddam.
Were the truth known, this "General Order" is a hold over from the First Gulf War and was instigated by the Saudi government, as a condition of their cooperation. The Saudis also wanted our female "troops" to follow their dress standards and to not drive vehicles.
Besides, how can you have a proper war without a bar and a whorehouse?
