Rick was a soldier's soldier. He believes in our people and supporting our people, including telling them the truth. And the truth is that he is no longer able to tell our people in Afghanistan that the mission Ottawa wants us to do is worth squat all.
That was the way I was trained. That was the way Rick taught me. |

Whoa! For a second I thought somebody had broken into your house and stolen all your guns or someone made your wife decide she wants to redecorate your man room or something of the likes.

About the french "surge" the first part of the answer is here :
France to send more troops Little surge, as you can see. And the 700 French won't go in the Canadian sector. They will go in another less dangerous one, and this will free some US troops. And these US troops will help the Canadians. In this situation, "take the lead"... No comment. (Take the command in Kabul, yes, it was planed.) Last edited by cesm : 04-16-2008 at 19:00 PM. |

I'd like you to watch where the French paratroopers go and let us know. My guess is that they're headed straight to eastern border, replacing elements from the 101st Airborne Div (Air Assault). If so, the French will be joining CJTF-101. That's what I've been reading.
That area of operations is very active right now. This board is FULL of stuff coming out of RC-East. That's not to say that the south isn't smokin' too. There's a reason U.S. Marines and the 101st are heading south, no doubt. Still, if the French are out doing their job, they'll have a hard time avoiding trouble. Where they're headed, trouble will find them.

I've read quite the same thing.
I fear some losses. The eastern sectors may be less dangerous than the Canadian sector, but it doesn't look very quiet you're right. French reinforcements will have to fight. About the unit deployed, it will be good-trained troops, but maybe not paratroopers. It could be a "Chasseurs Alpins" unit (the french mountain infantry). To be continued... |

Hillier was much to popular amongst a Canadian public that is almost retarded with respect to the Canadian forces and it's remarkable war history. The myth of the Blue hats and Canada's tiny contribution to the U.N. that in reality never exceeded more than a couple of Battalions(a Brigade group in the Korean war I believe)as compared to 5 Divisions and a couple of Brigades in Western Europe at the end of the Second World War. Hillier brought all that forgotten Military achievement back to our conscience if only fractionally and at specific time's,like Remembrance day. All this truth and glory and war mongering is to much for modern Canada and I am positive the Canadian Government will find some lackey yes man to dismantle a once again proud and (perhaps to small) an effective Military. It goes hand in hand with the revisionist history taught in Canadian high schools today.

I understand, though as bad is it is to see him retire, his successor is similiar to him. Is that true?
Also, I love this last sentence from his official biography: General Hillier enjoys most recreational pursuits but, in particular, runs slowly, plays hockey poorly and golfs not well at all.
