    Sabotage suspected

The blaze on the train, which carries travelers to Pakistan, coincides with a visit by Pakistan's Foreign Minister Kasuri to India on Monday.

The cause of the fire is not known and sabotage has not been ruled out, according to railway officials.

Train 'suitcase bombs' kill at least 64

Twin blasts aboard a train bound from India to Pakistan that killed at least 64 people were probably "an act of terror'', a spokesman for India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh says.

"This is what it suggests, that it was an act of terror,'' spokesman Sanyaja Baru said.

A top state government official said most of the victims were Pakistanis but included some Indian security personnel.

Two suitcases filled with flammable material which investigators believe may have been explosive devices were found at the scene, said VN Mathur, general manager of the Northern Railway.

He said one was found inside a burned coach and the other on the railroad track.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, India's junior railways minister R Velu, said: "We have 64 bodies.''

The fire engulfed two coaches of the Samjhauta Express, one of two train links between rivals India and Pakistan.

Because of security concerns, the train is kept sealed - with locked doors and barred windows in the lower-class coaches - from New Delhi to the border, and passengers may have been trapped inside the burning cars.

The fire broke out just before the train reached the station in the village of Deewana, about 80km north of New Delhi.

People who live near the tracks rushed to the train with buckets of water soon after the fire broke out, and the blaze was eventually extinguished after fire trucks arrived.

At least 30 passengers who were burned or injured in the blaze have been hospitalised in the nearby town of Panipat, Mathur told reporters.

The train was travelling from New Delhi to Atari, the last railroad station before the border with Pakistan.

The train links are one of the most visible results of the peace process underway between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan, and one of the easiest ways to travel between the two countries.

Within hours of the fire, authorities detached the burned coaches and the rest of the train left for the India-Pakistan border.

From media news, it is clear that it was a planned terror attack. But, interesting thing to note would be if govt explores possibility of hindu terrorism. Considering the fact that majority targetted were pakistanis.

Do u have any valid reason to discard role of hindutva elements in this attacks. Won't u be a more releived man if government agencies actually pursue this angle and then give a clean chit to right wing hindus instead of relying on blind faith.

Whoever they are, they must be found and hounded till they get their necks stringed and quartered.

I have no sympathies for terrorists who preyed on innocent people such as civilians or soldiers not on active duty.

Intial report say that many dead are pakistanis. I dont there there is an yreason to be patriotic. So, may be for first time people would debate such accidents with objectivity.

Btw, this event is a big diplomatic blow to india. We cant blame ISI now, due to dead pakistanis, unless we have it on tape. This strengthens pakistan's position of its non-involvement in other terrorist related activities.

I believe these terrorist attacks are no different from nithari serial killings of 40 young children. They both stem from root causes of corruption, political indifference and public forgetfulness. Infact I believe, nithari killings bring more hopelessness and shame than such terroritst attacks, because sins of people of our nation played bigger role in nithari than in these attacks. So, we first need to get rid of the evil within before even thinking about handling pakistan or islamic extremism.

All I am saying is to cleanse oneself before pointing fingers at others.
