I'm sitting in CSMC onboard the USS Momsen DDG 92 right now as I'm typing this, after having been assigned to the Momsen since May 1 2003, yes I'm a plankowner. I attended the Christening of her in Bath, and it's funny, but looking at my watch, the bottle broke across the bow at 11:02 am on August 9th.. (a rather significant date and time in history, since that's to the minute that the bomb exploded over Nagasaki)

I will depart for the last time the Momsen on September 1st and head to Florida for the Navy's recruiting school.

I've had some good times on here, some bad, but I will always remember this ship and hope that she has a great future ahead of her.
CSMC? Your not one of those engine room guys that use to stink up the mess deck cause they smelled like fuel, are you?

Good luck at recruiter school. Any idea where you will go after school?

Fair winds and following seas in all your endeavors.
Its called Tourist Season. So why can't we shoot them?

If you haven't read it, then obtaining a copy of James Hornfischer's Ship of Ghosts: The Story of the USS Houston, FDR's Legendary Lost Cruiser, and the Epic Saga of Her Survivors is a must.

I got to run (literally) through a Tico-class cruiser but I had to wistfully walk past several Burke-class destroyers afterwards wishing like crazy I could spend a few minutes on one of them as well.

Is what they say about Bath-built ships true? "Bath-built is best-built"

CSMC is the Combat Systems Maintenance Central. I'm the CSOOW right now(Combat Systems Officer Of the Watch) on the 1700-2200.

I'll be recruiting out of Elko Nevada, not really where I wanted, but that's ok. I'm still out of Navy Recruiting District Oregon, (my home) and I'll probably be able to get stationed out of Oregon some time in the future.

These Burkes are cramped to say the least. The pways are narrow, and too get through them, if your passing someone the junior Sailor has to stand sideways, on some of the narrower pways, both Sailors have to inch by each other sideways.. BUT they are very well built ships, with very good protection (look at how much damage the Cole took)

Bath built is best built.. yep, that's definitey a true statement. We have some Sailors over here that have served on both Bath and Pascagoula Burkes and they all say the Bath ships are the best..

Yes TH it is a good book. It was given to me a few month back by my sister who happens to own a home on Bar Harbor. Her husband is a "watcher" he sees and takes pics and sends them to me of the latest and greatest coming out of bath for trials and for commisioning.

    Naming Tin Cans

For about as long as the navy has had tin cans it has named them after naval heroes, marines and other folks associated with the USN. During WW2 they named cans after dead submariners, pilots, marines, swabbies, and even politicians. Nothing new!!

I have been to many launches at Bath, including that of your ship, sir.

The point about Bath ships being best is not usually mentioned in public, but the SecDef made that point at the launch of the Winston Churchill.
