I can see pro and cons, it isn't very different than a cruiser or battleship superstructure, with buildings fore and aft and a flat spot between. For stealth and drag, the less superstructure the better - though carrier stealth is pretty limited anyways.

From a professional point of view would any of you expect these carriers to be possible british 'white elephants' (like the Nelson/Rodney mentioned) or possible trend setters for future carriers of similar size/displacement?

The second carrier (HMS Prince of Wales or might be changed to HMS Ark Royal) will be held in "extended readiness"; ie spares.
