Destroyer Escort Historical Museum, USS Slater (DE-766)

I promised Rusty that I would stop invading his BB threads and create another for the Slater! The smaller "trim but deadly" ships of WW2!
These are some of the interior shots. Though she is 90% restored, there are still a few compartments in process. These are just a few representative views and I will take requests! Just forget about me heading into the bilge spaces!
The last picture I intend to post will be her pulling away from the dock and leaving a wake at her bow and stern!

    Thank you ....

    Navy Doc,

I appreciate the efforts of your crew to get a DE up and running.
Especially the below deck illustrations which only the lucky few get to view.
May you ship always sail the Hudson in peace. And please keep those picture coming.

( Hint.... the photos of the main and secondary guns?, or the bridge, ship's profile, close up of the bow & stern)
We anxious thread dwellers can be very easy to please.

On any Monday morning you'll find several ol goats, the Admiral and a few of us lesser PO's waiting for that little red light on the coffee maker to light up! But, that just leaves room for all the stories!

Actually, even better than the pic, click the below link and it will take you directly to a Panoramic on which you can zoom and pan the Bridge!

Is this feature available for the whole DE ?

Are those real Ma-Dueces fastened to the Starboard bulkhead ?

They are indeed "Ma-Dueces"! We have a couple that have been set up to use propane for simulated firing!
I think about 1/2 the ship has panoramic links. I'll start from the top down. I'll break them up a bit since the tour could be a little bit much for one shot! We don't want to wear out any of our senior shipmates!

That about covers the superstructure. In the next post of links we'll go below decks to the First Platform!

    Excellent presentation

These types of tours certainly provide for even a more detailed study of a naval warship than a walking tour ( where you are exposed to too much visual stuff in a short period of time)

I love these panoramic shots. Now did my eyes notice a couple of sound power phone caps with broken ball chain not attached to them. I constantly have people breaking these on the bridge of the Hornet which is why I have a 25ft. supply of #8 brass ball chain...

Just stumbled upon this while looking up whats new about the Slater on the web. So thought - Why not share my own picutres from the Slater!
USS Slater pictures by qaz14595 - Photobucket Along with four Sub-albums of four other days of work onboard

A video of the Ships service generator running I recorded
Along with a more steady video of it running form another volunteer - (Im the young one who can be seen climbing the ladder 1:44)
Final a video I created with various before & affter pictures of most of the major compartments onboard -

(P.S Not trying to take over your thread! haha )
