In theory these should be among the most capable non-nuclear subs in the world. They're the victim of either neglect in reserve or shotty workmanship.

One of my few friends in the navy (yes, I do have a few, made during my stint at NDHQ) whose up for his Captains (full Colonel) said the squids will make these boats work one way or the other, even if it means wearing scuba gear while working.
I don't know if this speaks of the confidence the squids have in these boats or the quality of the squids themselves. However, the Cmdr, as am I, are fully confident that the squids and the boats will do whatever mission assigned to them.
Incidently, the navy is looking (emphasis mine and it's not official policy, only conceptual stage) at cruise missiles and using these boats as the platform. I have never gotten a satisfactory answer on how TOMAHAWKs could fit into them.

The tomahawks are about the same size as the mk48 torpedo and can be launched from the tubes. Other than that its a question of software and trading tomahawks for torpedoes on the boat.Originally Posted by Officer of Engineers

So in other words if the need arrises its a simple modification and we have the capability to launch Tomohawks from the Victoria's. Sounds like a decent capability to me, and all for 900 millions bucks a pop, not including tomohawks. Whats the price of Tomohawks anyway, 1 million a peice?
