I struggle with someone other than the French providing the systems for fix wing carrier aviation that you guys won't - let alone havine a 100 000 tonne ship Its a massive step up - and to have real capability they need two of them... And be able to defend them adequately...

I doubt if InN has the budget to go for another carrier in the next decade, the ex-Centaur class (used to operate Harriers) one is confirmed to be floating till the end of 2018 or thereabouts, much money has already been spent on Gorshkov which ll enter service in the next half decade at most, 2 Vikrant class which ll most probably operate Mig29Ks are confirmed with possibility of a third. These all utilize STOBAR, so I doubt if a French CATOBAR equipped carrier with compatable aircrafts is on the cards anytime soon.

And it's also being used as a parts hulk for the active CVN's. Perhaps when the boys at Bremerton have left her a shell of what she once was maybe she will be offered for sale, but I doubt there would be any buyers. The JFK, also recently decommed saw no buyers either, and neither did the Ranger, Constellation, Forrestal, Saratoga or Independence.

The French use early license built US gear to chuck their planes in the air

The french cats are built under license from the US.

IIRC, they're about 3 build generations older than current US models

I am not sure how good the idea is. It might be possible that India's next carrier will be based on British CVF(or CVF) itself instead of the current Cavour design. However the biggest issue will be the cost.

Dont see how IN can justify such a purchase.

On the other hand does Britain have a history of selling carriers to anyone other than India?

Bit of a moot point considering that the UK Govt has come out and stated outright that there never was a deal and that its unsubstantiated.

we saw the same silly nonsense come out when the Kitty was ready for the maritime retirement village.

personally I blame it on journos with an overly fertile imagination and not much sense and logic where it counts.

    Okay!

But do they use similar steam catapaults with nuclear power, or is it conventional?

Britain sold carriers to a number of countries post war, but this is irrelevant since its not going to sell one of it's new carriers to India.

    Delta,
Its a steam driven catpult system operated off of aux boilers even on the nuclear powered CVN's. Its has a series of oblong pulleys and tensioners. The newest class of CVN (Gerald Ford) class is supposed to have an EMALS system Electro-Magnetic Aircraft Launch systems. They are to be designed with far less maintenance in mind and are supposed to be tested sometime next year.
