    Option 1

I voted for option 1, but that has to be complemented with option 2.

If ever there is a requirement for a UN mandated military action, this is it. Less of typical UN type controversies, since most people understand acknowledge that piracy is bad

It's a very strategic location. I bet China would love to have an outpost that controls the entrance to the Red Sea and commands the western Indian Ocean.

What do you guys think of the idea of sending several more USMC amphibious assault ships to the region? I think they'd be very ideally suited for this type of operation. The USS Boxer is already in theater.

Ironduke I think they would work great for that situation.

    Ironduke,

And what are they supposed to do there?

Give the ships convoys consisting of some corvette with a 40 mm and Penguins.

I doubt China would be able to colonize that piece of land right now.

Sink their ships/boats, burn the villages, blockade the ports for motherships and mine the waterways.
For Gallifrey! For Victory! For the end of time itself!!

    I don't.

China is still an authoritarian government. One command from the party and the nation will lurch toward glory for the people.

My point still stands. The pirates are Somalis. They will be there FOREVER, unless we do something unspeakable. After our military kills every single pirate and leaves, more Somalis will take their place. We can't stay there long. They will be there FOREVER! After we leave, they'll be there. As soon as we loosen our control, they'll be there. They will be there even when we are there to enforce the law. They will always be there.

There are 3 ways to permanently deal with this problem:

    1. Genocide, no one wants to do this.
    2. Nation building, no one wants to do this.
    3. Colonization, like nation building but we actually get a cut of the action. Unfortunately, it's out of fashion now.

Anything short is just a band-aid fix.

What a bunch of thoughtless warriors there are answering this situation.
They sound like a gang who never served in the armed forces or are too old to remember the horrors of war.

Actually I meant the area literally at the "horn." It's not exactly at the entrance to the Red Sea, but it has better access to the Indian Ocean.

    well....

dont china already own 1/2 of africa....after this last fiasco and the pirates thteatening to kill u.s and french sailers,i think every cargo ship should have trained sailers ,at least m16"s and beretta/glock whatever sidearms,if not even trained security with whatever they see fit.my thoughts are .50 barrett rifles-gatling,miniguns or .30-.50 caliber mgs.that would cure the problem.

    . . . . and isn't all that far from Diego Garcia.

If they will try to do so, I'll apply for volunteer duty with the pirates. I can repair radios and build bombs and rockets.

    Sir,

I was actually trying to say that I doubt China has the resources to do so. And they have seen the US in Iraq, and will avoid the mistakes.
