She just get into the dock, and She is only a training carrier, she can move herself first. China's true applied carrier is far away.
Maybe PLAN will build two 30000 tons LHD before the applied carrier came.

Like I said, unless they're adding engines, she is not going to be a carrier

I think I posted this link before, but it shows the Varyag's progression in PLAN.

THE RISING SEA DRAGON IN ASIA VARYAG TRANSFORMATION

I believe she is a training carrier for BOTH military personnel and construction workers.

Sir, Something I ran across on the wire. Not sure of its origins nor confirmed as of yet. Will try to track a source.

Varyag Progress: Revealed in December 2008, a large hole in the forward flight deck indicates the removal of a battery for long-range anti-ship missiles. Is this move related to the ship’s engines, or just an effort to extend the aircraft hangar space? Source: Chinese Internet

    Dreadnaught,

I was aware of that hole and speculation has been rampant but to date, the waterline hasn't changed and no engines have been seen. One thing about PLA watching, I hate to make speculations that is proven false time and time again.

Added to this, the Ukrainian engineers who decomissioned the thing don't want to be anywhere near that thing when it starts landing planes. So, there is a question of just how much she can take, even for a training carrier.

I want to see her under her own steam before making further speculations.

Sir, Completely agree. I look at it in this fashion. If in fact there was such an idea to install engines via this opening (even non nuclear), the amount of bulkheads and structural supports that would have to be cut to gain access would no doubt weaken the entire upper structure such as the hangar and flight deck and all supports as well as any armor protection she were to have over the vitals. If they have gone to this much trouble then one of two possibilites exist.

    1) Theyre printing their own money to fund such radical modifications.
    2) We are all blind and they somehow rebuilt an entire carrier in broad daylight.

I'm not for either in this case. It will be truelly surprising to see her under way on her own and without tugs and photoshop helping.

The GGG 168 looks a very well balanced design in armament and sensors for a ship both its size and displacement!
A little bit of West and a little bit of East (whether purchased and acquired by other means!)
The PRC has gone a long way and appears to have learned a lot in a short time.
Hats off to them for effort.
Those Chinese ‘copied’ Goalkeeper CIWS look prominent and purposeful!!!

Should be DDG (Guided missile Destroyer).
DDG 168 is a kind of destroyer of transition, mixed lots of Russian system with acquired data chain system. Actually, as a destroyer, her weapon systems are limited. There are only 2 vessels of its class. Somebody said, one of its important purpose is to be a link between Russian systems vessels and independent system vessels. And you may see there are plenty of strange data chain antennas on aboard.

H/PJ12 Type 7-30 CIWS(7tube 30mm Close-in weapon system) is the first CIWS that was devoloped by PLAN.

Its gun system maybe devoloped from GE GAU-8/A and EX-83 gun mount.

Actully,Both Holand "goalkeeeper" and French"SAMOS/SATAN" used the GE GAU-8/A gun and EX-83 gun mount .

But the RADAR & ELECTROOPTICAL SYSTEMS and the fire control system (FCS) of the 730 are the independent system.

See the picture belows. and PLAN probable next generation CIWS.
