The answer to delays and cost overruns in the Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship program could be solved by the Coast Guard, a key lawmaker told the maritime service chiefs during a hearing Thursday.

Rep. Gene Taylor, D-Miss., told Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead and Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Thad Allen that the two services should look to pursue a “common hull” for both LCS and the Coast Guard’s National Security Cutter program.
Could it be the honorable Congressman represents the company..eh..state where the National Security Cutter is being built??? I am on record as saying the NSC could pick up some of the missions envisioned for the LCS, but anything coming out of Congress these days has to examined with a giant pooper-scooper beforing taken at face value. Even if the NSC buy is expanded and picks up the slack from LCS on missions like maritime security, drug interdiction, anti-piracy, ... there is still the true littoral type missions that will demand a more specialized hull (and approach).
