    No ramps for USMC!

After reading a recent thread on the USMC Harrier II deployment on-board HMS Illustrious, I wondered why, after the positive comments from Marine aviators, why there are no ramps on USMC Tarawa or Wasp class ships????

One reason mentioned was that a ramp took up TWO helicopter spaces. The Marines said it would only take one. They also added that to a man they wished they had ramps installed on their ships. Yet another reason was that commanders said it just didn`t "look" right. Surely not?

Wondering what you goodly WABBER`S thought about this? I have often thought that a ramp would also be beneficial for CTOL aircraft although the catapult arrangements would be interesting!
