Carnic damage does not affect much, the airfields of Andamans and Nocibar are in excellent shape.
BTW, there were only choppers in carnic and surprisingly there is not much damage to them, the hardened shelters prooved their worth.

well i dont hav much of an idea about how mcuh damage has occured. And i believe that if the damage was there the Indian govt wouldnt bring it out in public to make sure people still remains in doubt over the capabilities.
Though i think indians are gonna use it as a good chance to inmprove up teh infrastructure of andemans .

During Indira Gandhi's time, we had an airborne operation half way towards the island to capture it, but was called back.
But better sense prevaled and an incident against the US was avoided.

lemon, how could chinese navy be at the mercy of indian airforce? Isnt the indian airforce too small?

Sir,
These are one of those "for your eyes only" type things. All I know is that one phase was already underway when they were called back. My fathers unit (a field ambulance unit), was packed and on the tarmac waiting for their turn to take off.
It was one of those cold war era incidents, as Indo-US relations were not cordial.

The US took over from the British in the early '70s. This was some time after that, late '70s and early '80s, Indira Gandhi's time as PM.

If Indira Gandhi was really preparing to take Diego Garcia out, then why wasn't she prepared to take out the nuclear facilities in Pakistan. That would be a far less risky path to take. Attacking Diego Garcie means effectively declaring war on United States and it would be suicidal for India.

I just don't buy it.

Wind direction patterns that exist here. Any radiation fallout would effect North-west India too. We would'nt want out bread basket area to be radioactive and contaminated, would we?

I agree it would have been sucidal. But so was sending the 7th Fleet to the Bay of Bengal, an aggressive act against India.
You have to view these actions from the Cold War prespective. Although India claimed to be non-aligned, but it did get dragged into the Cold War politics, with a leaning towards the Soviet Union.

i think chinese navy fleet can not do anything even at the great mercy of indian air-force.Because their navy is one of coastal defence,and their capability can not reach the collision spot far from their coast line,except their submarine,ie nuclear one.The real threat is come from their sub.If india navy take chinese sub in to their control,chinese navy ,equiped with 2-3 relatively advanced destroyers can not do anything but weeping and crying.

yup, chinese just have to learn it well and act fast, thank god we developed the ship building capability pertty well these couple of years. i say built 6 frigates 7000+ with bunch others a year is a good start, we would seen the same in 2005.., don't even count those brought from overseas, they were not count as our ability.....so good luck!

You've just told me that this was a brigade level operation.
