Lanzhou Class (Type 052C) - a match for DDG-51 Arleigh Burke Flight IIA?

China build Lanzhou Class (Type 052C) Guided Missile Destroyers to challenge US DDG-51 Arleigh Burke Flight IIA destroyers. Did it succeed?

No, it did not succed. If, the radar and HQ-9 missles work on this thing as advertised it still is not up to par to the AB. The Chinese ship has only 48 VLS tubes v 96 for the Burke FltIIA and with quadpacked ESSM the number of SAms held by the BUrkes will not only be much much larger but will inlcude SM-2's and quadpacked ESSM which will give the Burke an in-tight anti-missle defense that the Chinese ship does not have. Finally, the Burke has much better sonar and has the flexibility to carry TLAMs and VL ASROC as well.

Don't get me wrong - the Chinese ship looks good on paper. However, it is not only a match for the Burke, but will also never be built in the numbers the Burkes are. Until China goes to a full scale open competitive defense industry market, it will never be able to build anything of the quality or sophistication of that made in the west (or Russia for that matter)
