    Tour of a Typhoon

    Hia folks

A site I check daily just posted a photo tour of a Typhoon SSBM:

I can't if it's supposed to be operational or not. Some areas appear to be in very poor condition, others are squaky clean and ready...

Russia has already well begun the scrapping of the Typhoons. If they are not already out of the fleet totally they are surely on their way out.
Fortitude.....The strength to persist...The courage to endure.

DN, do you know anything about the Ohios? Will we be scrapping our SSBN's also?

"Operational" is a relative term for an SSBM with missiles like the Typhoon.
She can launch her birds from that pier and hit anything in the world.

Could that Typhoon put to see? Not a chance. Not without a refit anyway.
Could she launch her missiles? That's a little more iffy. My guess is, no. I doubt they'd allow people to tour and freely photograph her if she was in any way operational.

Gonna steal this one from our newest Defense Professional

In a way, yes. There have been 4 Ohio-class SSBNs decommissioned.

The first 4 boats of the class, Ohio, Michigan, Florida and Georgia were due to be scrapped under the provisions of START II treaty.

On the other hand, instead of being scrapped, those 4 boats have been refitted and recommissioned as SSGNs...basically filling 22 out of the 24 former Trident missile tubes with a "seven-pack" of Tomahawks, for a total of 154 missiles per boat.

All 4 boats are now in service in their new roles.

What a dark, dingy poorly kept sub. The Russians are absolutely brilliant at keeping their subs and surface vessels in horrible states!

Some of those surfaces are just messed up! Tiles missing left right and center, windows cracked. I love the pool and the gym, now i can understand why Russian submariners are some of the most motivated in the world..... errrr.

Forget talking about her putting to sea, and even the mention of her being able to fire a weapon is totally absurd, she shouldn't even be allowed people on-board while shes docked!
