yeah which was turned into razor blades in 2003.

I'll make this a bit easier.... There are two of those 41 for freedom boats that still have living USN sailors working aboard. Who and where are they?

Yes, the newbie got it. MTS 626 and 635 used to be SSBN 626 and 635. They have both had their missile compartments removed and have been modified for the training of 'baby nukes' (future nuclear operators and officers).

Parts of other submarines still exist. The reactor compartments of all of the submarines are placed for perminent storage in Washington. The conning tower of the George Washington is at the Submarine Museum in Groton, CT.

Before Dread answers, let me take a guess. The most destructive missile they could carry would be the Trident C-4 which was the same size as the Poseidon series of missiles. Original all those boomers carried the smaller (in diameter) Polaris series of missiles. To change over from Polaris to Poseidon only required removing the inner tube of the launch vessel. We deliberately designed them that way so the change over would be fast.

The Trident D-5 missiles however are huge monsters and needed a whole new class of submarines to carry them.

Otherwise, every sub can carry Tomahawks as well since they are launched from the torpedo tubes.

Although there were several tests conducted a well known one was Mississippi BB41 converted to AG-128 which fired a Terrier missle system in the 1950's.

She may not be the one you are looking for but she fits both catagories of the the question.

1)Commisioned 1917 which makes her a Dread. (P.S. always loved the "stem" stern)
2)Modified to carry the Terrier system in early 1950's

Werner Henke in the German POW Cemetary, FT Meade, MD.

When I was a Boy Scout living in Washington DC in the 1960s & 1970s there was a Scout Campground on FT Meade. On 2 occasions we visited this cemetary and helped clean it up as a service project.

Correct Albany. Curiously enough his grave is decorated with flowers on his birthday.

Nice to know the scouts do such things for projects.
