Five second rule! LOL! (Sorry I been having a very busy week blowing up equipment.)

What is the (physically) largest piece of DC equipment aboard a US submarine?

P.S. "Last Stand" is a must read for anybody!

LOL Smaller than that. Here is a hint...it's damage control use is a secondary use. An can be seen up close at many submarine museums.

A P-250 submersible pump.

Maybe only a P-100 but those teensy things didn't help the Cole much.

I thought for sure the fuel part would give it away, but no, that's not it.... the submersible pumps aboard subs are electric.

Remember guys I said SUBMARINE.

We are at your mercy as most of us who like to sleep with the window open were not acceptable as sub mariners.

The answer is the boat's emergency desiel generator. While its primary purpose is to produce emergency electrical power in the event of a reactor casulty, in the event of fire or a toxic gas casulty, the generator will be lined up to take its air suction from one of the boats compartments and use the toxic/contaimated air as intake for the engine and expel it through the exhaust system. It will perform this task about 5 times faster than using other means to ventilate.
