Two that I can think of. Only one was a true sinking and that was of an Iranian Mine Layer (built in Sweden). The other was an Iranian oil island by a USN Destroyer type ship that used up quite a bit of her magazine of 5" rounds to knock it down.

My wife asked why it took so many shots and I could only answer that an oil island is a tower of pipes with lots of open spaces between them.

Don't remember the name of the ship(s) though.

Wait a minute. In the Gulf War the Missouri took out the entire fleet of Iraqi gunboats in their harbor. But I don't think they really sunk. Just flew all over the place in splinters of fiberglass (also made in Sweden).

I worked on a Swedish built gunboat that was captured from the Iranians. It used two Volvo-Pinta inboard/outboard engines in it and the fiberglass was cracked all over the place, I had to reinforce the engine foundations and put a thick aluminum plate in the transom. Must have been Sweden's export model as the Port side of the boat was further off of centerline than the Starboard side. Also the fiberglass paneling was made of "chop" rather than woven roving.

October 28, 2007 incident off Somalia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I was supprised about these pirates as well seems all of the currently commissioned ships in the USN with kills to their names were against pirates! With the exception of good old Iron Sides, USS Constitution who sank a couple british ships but I wont count her right now. The ones you stated are more what I would consider combat to be honest.

Also didnt we lease some of those swede boats to try out for brown water stuff?

*lucky I caught this I was wrong about the pirate thing, 1 ship the USS Simpson has fought a military(Iran) with its shipboard weapons and sank a boat (PT boat) after it had engaged and destroyed a intel gathering station on a oil platform, it is still commissioned.

Ill let you have it rusty but I have a good 1 ready so i hope i can answer your next question.

Is this the boat you worked on?http://www.soldf.com/tpbs200.html

Also disregard the lease comment i was thinking of the later cb90(very cool boat also from sweden) and it was Germany that leased them(and used them against green peace ).

There is a group of people called the Pacific Fleet Center that has gotten letters of approval from the Port of Long Beach, the Mayor of Long Beach, several council members and other organiztions to bring a decommissioned Navy ship into Long Beach and berth it just below the Queen Mary as a museum ship.

What ship are they trying for?

Titanic?

Is this thing going to be where the Spruce Goose was?

Is that going to be the lone clue you're going to give?

The last time I "saw" Sea Shadow was while it was in a covered barge up in Siusun Bay.

Not interested in it at all.

Titanic is too rusty right now. Would require too much paint to spruce her up.

Which area of the Spruce Goose are you referring to? By her old hangar on the East end of Pier Echo is no good. Would block channel traffic.

On the East end of Pier J however, BELOW the Spruce Goose Dome AND Queen Mary we have lots of room.

Want a hint? Her nickname is TOP GUN.

Last time I was down past the Queen Mary was around 26 years ago where we used to fish for bonita off those rocks. When they had the annual water skiing competition to Catalina and back, those big offshore racers would go flying by.

Are they going to put the other rudder back on that mystery ship if it comes to LB? Or is it the wrong ship but with the same number?

Actually, it's not like I'll ever take the 22 mile drive to go see it, whatever it might be.....
