Hellenic Navy

What's your opinion on the Hellenic (Greek) Navy compared to other Navies in the world? How would you classify it? Here is a link to get you started of you know nothing about it :

Same as any other Militaristic organization by the sounds of it. I love this whole "let's pretend its still peacetime" thing.

Never. I was making the point that people who think like that are incorrect.

Have worked with them once. Doing small boat ops. Practiced, with their small boat teams, launching and recovering off their LSTs. Very professional,
ships, although old were well maintained and clean, chow was good, and they served booze.

An added bonus was that the Greek CRIC teams knew where the clothing option beaches were when we left the ships to do joint training.

Well compared to the US Navy of course is significantly smaller. Also take into account that the Greek Navy has no Aircraft Carriers and doesn't need them yet (although a small Carrier is in the Navy's plans for the future) because of the Islands and the Greek Dogma which is defensive.

Other than that, the Navy uses Frigates instead of Corvettes and it's expansion is targeted basically towards Submarines, Frigates and Gunboats. Rapid reaction vessels are also important.Basically the Navy's task is the defense of the Aegean and South East Mediterranean.

The Greek Navy needs a more modern Area Air Defense System.

Greece has always been a maritime country due to the greek islands and its location at the corner of europe asia and africa. greece has the 12th largest navy in the world ( Navy Ships Inventories of the World ) but only the 74th largest population.
