its for real. both the soviets and the USN had extensive programmes using dolphins. AFAIK the russians are struggling to maintain theirs as the funds have dried up. they're basically being cared for gratis by their old handlers. handling has become even more useful and important with the advent of the new gen ROV's. |

I recall that picture, believe it was on navy.mil site.
Consider this similar picture: .navy.mil/view_single.asp?id=37104 with its caption. About using dolphins for anti-personnel against other divers. Supposedly, the US never did that. Why not? Well, one of the reasons might be that the dolphins didn't always return. But they didn't quell the story either because if other people believed it, it was a deterrent to keep enemy divers out of the harbor. Now, YEARS ago, I attended a demo of a seal and a diver, about how the seal could be used to deliver tools and messages to the diver working down below. Why? Seals don't get decompression sickness in making rapid ascents, descents. ---------------------------------------------------------- (The assassins have stolen talking dolphins Alpha and Be to have them place a bomb under US Yacht 1. Waiting for the news on their boat, they hear a "bonk". The explosive expert looks out one port hole then the other on the opposite side intime to see both dolphins swimming away, one with an empty mine harness. "Oh, Sh**!" before the boat takes off for the moon., (w,stte), "Day of the Dolphin") |

recently i saw a program on tv about dolfins, there was an experement, two balls were placed in 2 boxes, one ball was made from copper the other from plastic, dolfins did tell apart those balls that were placed inside the black boxes. all using their sonar. amaizing even boxes weren't a barrier for their sonar.
