I like Prince of Wales and Queen Elizabeth, both are historical ships names.
as for the type 45's, i like daring and dauntless, but the rest are just bad. Id like to see names like Indefatigable, Renown, Warspite, Hotspur, Audacious, Repulse, and Vanguard.

They're assigned hull numbers once they're authorized but they usually don't give a name to a ship until they're close to being ready for the start of construction. So, whoever is SECNAV a few years from now will name CVN-79. |

Clinton will NEVER get a carrier named after him/her. If it happens, I'll pull a Baldwin and move to Europe.

Get a HMS Defiant in there. At least it begins with a D. I must admit the name HMS Duncan doesnt do anything for me, nor HMS Diamond. |

Me thinks that when the two new carriers hit the British fleet you will have an abundance of names to use. Reason being..grapevine has it that quite a few shall be taken out of service (escorts, minelayers etc) but they will retain the eight destroyers in the fleet. We shall see.

Just because it irritated the nuclear freeze luvin' neighbors, I liked USS Simon Bolivar. ;-)
From a personal perspective, Saratoga is a favorite. I served on her and my father served on both carriers named Saratoga. Family connections aside, Sara had the best chow in the navy. Nimitz is a fitting name for a class of carriers. USS Nimitz was the cleanest ship I ever served aboard. Nukes are nice that way. |

P.S. I'd rather he leave than you, Gun. Keeping in mind that I'm former Army, I've always wondered why some of our larger ships (floating tanks to me! ) weren't given names like "Juggernaut," "Hammer," "Grizzly," etc. Something such that when the enemy does find a way to read their names, they think twice about taking them on. (I had a tank named "Juggernaut" once--it was the most ragged rattle-trap I've ever loved!)

America with a Clinton in the white house is still better than most of Europe. At least I have places to hide my guns.Thank you for the endorsement. To be fair to him, he's been quiet lately. I think he learned that making outrageous comments doesn't earn him points with his audience. |

Bush appears to be a "cowboy" because he doesn't really care what people think of him. He'll do what he believes is the best for this country, and then best for the world. Clinton is like Chamberlain while Bush is more like Churchill. |

Personally I think Gunnuts assessment is right on the mark. Churchill was seen as a fool following Galipoli and his idea of attacking the "soft underbelly" of Italy was less than stellar so he had his detractors as well. |
