USN Catch of the DAY...

This happens much more often than reported:

(Stonington-AP, Feb. 23, 2006 6:27 AM) _ A Stonington fisherman says he's getting paid for an unusual catch of the day -- a submarine.

Alan Chaplaski says the Navy has agreed to pay him for damages his boat from last summer when the USS Montpelier snagged his gear and almost capsized the boat.

At first Chaplaski thought his net had snagged on the bottom, but something began pulling his 150-ton steel boat backward, causing it to shake violently.

Chaplaski told the New London Day that the incident was over in a matter of seconds and that his crew could have been killed.

Chaplaski says he lost four days of fishing to repair and recover his gear. He then filed a claim with the Navy.

Chaplaski won't say how much money he's getting, but says it's fair compensation.

7,000 tonne SSN against 150 tonne fishing boat. Hey, some matchups in life aren't always fair, Mr Chaplaski...

On the way back the the U.S. from Faslane, my best friend's nuke boat got snagged in a trawler's net...which promptly got wrapped around the shaft...which promptly stopped the screw...which almost as promptly screwed the entire boat.
Fortuantely they were able to surface and limp back into port...
