IMV, China needs to secure her crude's supply before going to pacific.
That is the reason Taiwan has to fall, followed by the the Spratleys.
Then, they will secure the Malacca, they are presently looking for alternatives (think of the funding of the Kra canal p.e.). Else, Singapore has to fall.
They are already securing the other side of the Andaman.

Just pure geopolitics.

Well no one's invading Singapore, and I dont think anyone can 'secure' Malacca, not even the countries that are already there.
