Old part of Lahore.

Part of UrbanPakistan.com's Asim in Pakistan section...
I'll be updating this place by tomorrow, when I visit Bahria Town.
Lahore - The Mughal City!
Lahore is historically a important city; it's been around for hundreds or years and has been ruled by the Moguls, Sikhs and British. As a result Lahore has become on the most beautiful cities in the world with a rich mixture of Mogul and British architecture. Today the city is quite different with taller residential buildings going up. However the old city hasn't changed; you will still find many small streets and old monuments still standing today. Some have been built over 100 years ago and are still in good condition. This city is a must stop over if you visit Pakistan; there is something about it you won't feel in any other city in the world.
Modern Lahore is quite impressive as well; as you move into the suburbs you'll find the towns have been built quite well and planned out. However you must be aware of the traffic conditions in Lahore; there are no words to describe the mess this city is in. Pollution is really bad in Lahore and one of the major causes is the tons of traffic. If you are going to visit Lahore DO NOT drive yourself. Rather take the Yellow Taxis, Mini Rickshaws or Metro Buses which will go anywhere in the city.

They've undergone a major re-construction as well. We've got this place called Gawaalmandi, they're revamping all the old architecture and converted it into a food street. You get all the cool desi food there.Originally Posted by lemontree

Persians have had a heavy influence in the past centuries. Even the language, Urdu borrows a lot from Pharsi. To understand the mixtures that formed the Moghuls you can use the evolution of Urdu to figure it out. It was encouraged by the Moghuls the most, like the Moghul ruler, Akbar. There was an intense mixture of all kinds of ethnicities serving with the Moghuls, they wanted something that'll be really easy and understandable by all. Thus came Urdu which borrows a little from every language spoken in the region. Mainly Hindi, Arabic and Pharsi. It's a lot like Hindi/Hindustani. Just replacing all the heavy sanskrit with Arabic/Pharsi words.Originally Posted by Officer of Engineers
Urdu still remains to be one of the most easiest languages to pick up. I've really learnt that living in Dubai, where almost everyone can at least communicate in Urdu, a bit.
