    Rain

It's wet and cold up in the northwest. Some wet n' cold music to go with my mexican mocha and a cig. Earl Gray from Fleetwood Mac's Kiln House-

Rainy Day Dream Away-Hendrix from Electric Ladyland

"Hey man, take a look out the window 'n' see what's happ'nin'

    Hey man, it's rainin'
    It's rainin' outside man

    Aw, don't worry 'bout that
    Everything's gonna be everything
We'll get into somethin' real nice you know
Sit back and groove on a rainy day

    Yeah
Yeah I see what you mean brother, lay back and groove..."

    Burning Of The Midnight Lamp-

    Traffic...Rainmaker-

    Cream

    Tales Of Brave Ulysses-

A live version performed at the Whisky A Go-Go in L.A. on Sept. 4, 1967 with poorly-recorded vocals and Eric without his wah-wah pedal.

Doesn't matter. This is hot. Very, very hot-

Try focusing on Jack Bruce's bass playing. Makes everything else around it sound better.

    David Crosby

    Music Is Love-

    Laughing-

    Talmapais High (At About 3)-

I confess to being associated with some seriously psychedelicized parties that accompanied this album around 1972/1973...

    Through My Sails-

    Pardon My Heart-

Don't Let It Bring You Down-

Always liked the percussive effect he'd get when playing acoustic.

    Grateful Dead

    Cumberland Blues-

From Workingman's Dead, the Dead in their acoustic prime. A taste of Appalachia.

    The Eagles

Hotel California live from the 1998 Rock Music Hall Of Fame Awards. Fascinating performance because, as usual, these guys nail it live. Equally fascinating because they've also Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon on stage with them along with Timothy B. Schmidt and Don Felder, their replacements. Finally, fascinating given the long-standing and very bitter war between Felder and Henley/Frey.

Just exhilarating watching Felder and Joe Walsh perform their double harmonic lead at the end of the song. Henley's voice and the band's harmonies remain dead-solid perfection.

    A great, great band.

    Rolling Stones

Bitch from the 1972 Exile tour-

and from their 1969 Ya-Yas' tour, Jumpin' Jack Flash-

So much of what I've seen from the Stones in the last fifteen years has seemed like contrived drama...posturing. Especially Keith Richards. Mick has seemed to be genuinely trying to keep it real, but that's not enough.

I had that sense, actually, already in 1975 when I saw them. Already, without Brian Jones and Mick Taylor, they seemed tame. Of course, it didn't help seeing them on a Sunday afternoon outside in the summer. Naw...that wasn't the Stones. Inside on a Friday night where it's hot n' sweaty and the pent-up tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. That'd been more of what I expected. Saw them again in 1981, outside again on a pleasant Sunday afternoon.

Oh, both bills were nice. Chaka Khan and the Eagles in 1975. Fabulous Thunderbirds and Z.Z. Top for a Dallas show in 1981. No complaints, I suppose.

Yet...I'm complaining, reminiscing and remorsing. It's too bad as there was a time, during the 1969 and 1972 tours especially, when they absolutely took no prisoners and RULED the rock world as serious musicians and live performers.

    John, Paul, George & Ringo

In the immediate aftermath of their breakup, the fab four all had major solo hits. Would have been interesting what their next album might have done with songs such as these-

    What Is Life-

    It Don't Come Easy-

    Cold Turkey-
