Wow some pretty cool flying here.............. Glyn was this you on holidays? Ha ha. No sir! The old Bo 105 had a rigid rotor which gave fantastic control in forward flight BUT was rather twitchy in some conditions. One crashed about 50 metres from me at the end of a big exercise in Germany as the Heeresflieger pilot was slightly out of wind when trying to land. The helo was a write-off but luckily the pilot was unharmed.

Have we any ornithologists on WAB? I'm asking only out of idle curiosity, but are there gulls that don't have the 'sea' prefix. (Not digging at you, DN, as I also say 'seagull') Last edited by glyn : 03-27-2007 at 12:42 PM. Reason: spelling mistake |

Glyn,
I think that they are all members of the gull family. From what it seems on the tube you happen to have quite a variety of gulls on your side of the pond. For myself to say sea gull it seems more of a slang or general sort of water bird category. But perhaps in your case may be significantly different. This is only a blurb I pulled from Google. gull - example: Herring Gull, Larus argentatus. [Middle English gull, of Celtic origin, Cornish gullan, guilan, gwilan, gull, (Old English gul, yellow, literally, a yellow bird, from prominent yellowness of gull chicks, compare: Icelandic gulr, yellow, Danish gul, gaul, yellow compare: Welsh gwylan, seagull, gilbin, to weep, wail, Breton gwelan, goelann, gull, Old Norse gulr, Cornish gullan, gull; named for its cry].I would imagine these birds being more found in and around your country where as we do have them but apparently not in the abundance yourself and surrounding countries may appear to have. |

Personally, I think the Israeli Air Force is the best in the world. They are surrounded on all sides by Arab countries who really aren't too friendly to them, except perhaps Egypt. They need a good air force, not so they can wield power, but so they could survive. If their Air Force wasn't as good as it is, the Jewish state would have been wiped out long ago.
